apply in person at the Inspections /
Code Enforcement office located in
Cleveland City Hall, 907 E. Houston St.

applications are completed in the office
as there are more documentation at time
of permit issuance that require

permit?
You may
visit the Inspections / Building Permits
office Monday thru Friday between the
hours of 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and
from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

May I do the work myself or do I need to
hire a contractor?
All
electrical, plumbing and mechanical work
must be done my a state licensed
contractor.
May I start work before my permit is
issued?
No, however,
some exceptions may be approved by the
Building Official.
Do I need a permit to re-roof a
building?
Yes
Do I need a permit to build a detached
storage shed?
Yes, if the
cost of the job exceeds $500.00 or if
the building is larger than 400 sq/ft.
Do I need a permit to move a building or
manufactured home?
Yes, however
the building must be approved by the
Building Official before the permit will
be issued.
Entergy says I need a permit to have
power turned on. What do I do?
If you are
requesting power at a new location or
transferring names on accounts for a
commercial property you are required to
have a permit.. This permit may be
obtained at the Inspections Office for a
fee of $25.00. After the
inspection is completed, a white tag is
placed on the meter and the permit is
sent to Entergy.
Do I need a permit to build a deck?
Yes.
And you must bring a drawing of the
proposed deck or porch and a materials
list to the Inspections Department for
approval.
Do I need a permit to build a fence?
No.
What are the hours of construction
allowed in the City of Cleveland?
Normal
construction hours are allowed between
the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Do I need a building permit to install a
swimming pool, spa. or hot tub?
Yes and
drawings must be submitted to the
Inspections department for approval.
The gas company won't connect my gas.
What do I do?
Contact a
state licensed master plumber to acquire
a permit and perform a gas test. A
gas test inspections will then be called
in by the plumber. If gas test
passes, a green tag will be placed on
the meter. You may then contact
the gas company to request service to be
turned on.

What do I need to register my Master
Electrician's License with the city?
The Master
Electrician must come into the office
with their masters license, drivers
license, copy of contractors license,
certificate of insurance and $50.00
