The Public Works Department protects the health and safety of the community by overseeing the operation and maintenance of the City's infrastructure. It plans and develops core infrastructure to meet the needs of the growing City of Cleveland.  This includes:

Streets & Drainage

With six employees, the Streets & Drainage department is responsible for maintaining approximately 50 miles of streets and ditches within Cleveland's city limits.  Additionally, we provide brush and limb pick up services for Cleveland's senior citizens.  Other responsibilities include:

  • Mowing

  • Installation and repair of signage

  • Culvert installations 

Parks & Cemeteries Department

Consisting of five employees, the Parks & Cemeteries department is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of two City cemeteries and four City parks, along with the following:

  • Landscaping around City buildings

  • Maintenance of the City's swimming pool

  • Maintenance of downtown flower beds

  • Maintenance of flower beds at railroads

Vehicle Maintenance Department

The vehicle maintenance department is manned by one employee who is responsible for the maintenance of the entire Public Works fleet.

 

Building Maintenance Department

The Building Maintenance Department is staffed by one employee who has the responsibility of maintaining all six of City of Cleveland's buildings.

 

Water & Wastewater Department

The City of Cleveland's Water & Wastewater Department is comprised of eleven employees; including two meter readers and three sewer treatment operators.  This department is responsible for:

  • Maintenance of two wastewater treatment plants

  • Maintains 18 sewer lift stations

  • Responsible for the maintenance of four water wells

  • Installs new water and sewer lines

  • Performs fire hydrant maintenance

  • Performs maintenance on 43 miles of water lines and 41 miles of sewer line.

  • Meter readers are responsible for reading meters and change-outs, turn-offs and turn-ons, meter leaks and fire hydrant flushing.

Water Administration Department

Cleveland's Water Administration Department is supported by two employees who are responsible for billing and receipt of payments.  Other tasks include:

  • Water loss audits

  • Multiple State-required audits

  • Meter service orders

  • Coordinating with Waste Management on City's trash collection
